Cryolipolis is a non-invasive treatment with amazing results in reduction of body fat cells

Cryolipolis is a non-invasive treatment with amazing results in reduction of body fat cells in the treated area by freezing the fat cells. The overall result of body contouring gets better and better over a period of 8 weeks after treatment, and the final result is visible 4-6 months after the treatment.

Cryopolysis is the world’s leading treatment for non-invasive adipose tissue reduction that uses a unique technology to freeze and eliminate fat cells. Until this day it has been performed over eight million times, which can also be seen as a confirmation of the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.

It is achieved with minimal discomfort. Expected side effects are temporary erythema, bruising, and transient numbness that usually resolves within 14 days of treatment. With a prevalence of 0.1%, the most common complaint is late pain that occurs 2 weeks after the procedure and is resolved without intervention. Although no procedure has yet been accepted as the gold standard for noninvasive body contouring, cryolipolysis is considered safe and effective with a high rate of patient satisfaction.

Cryolipolysis is completely different from previous techniques. The principle behind this technology uses the assumption that fat cells are more sensitive to cooling than other skin cells. Thus the precise application of cold temperatures triggers the death of fat cells which are subsequently ingested and digested by macrophages. Immediately after the treatment, it is possible to observe a noticeably smaller number of subcutaneous fat cells. The inflammatory process stimulated by fat cell apoptosis can be seen within 3 days after treatment, and peaks approximately 14 days after fat cells become surrounded by histiocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes, and other mononuclear cells. 14–30 days after treatment, macrophages and other phagocytes surround, envelop, and digest lipid cells as part of the body’s natural response to injury. Four weeks after the treatment the inflammatory process decreases, so does the volume of fat cells. Two to three months after the treatment, the interlobular septa are markedly thickened and the inflammatory process continues to diminish. At this time, the volume of fat in the treated area is obviously reduced and the septa makes up most of the tissue volume.

The device that performs cryopolysis is actually a cup-shaped applicator with two cooling plates that is applied to the treatment area. The tissue is drawn into a hand-held device under moderate vacuum, and the selected temperature is modulated by thermoelectric elements and controlled by sensors that monitor the heat flow outside the tissue. Each area is treated for approximately 45 minutes and should be massaged 2 minutes after the treatment to improve the clinical outcome. The patient is then discharged and can resume normal activities immediately after treatment. The number of treatment cycles required depends on the area of treatment. Although good results on the ankles can usually be achieved with just one treatment, the back and inner and outer thighs often require more than two treatments. Repeated treatments should be 8 weeks apart in order to resolve the inflammatory process.

A study published in 2009, in which there were ten subjects, reported a reduction in fat layer by 20.4% and 25.5% in 2 months and 6 months after treatment, respectively. More recently, a retrospective multicenter study using patient surveys, photographic documentation, and measurements concluded that 86% of 518 subjects showed improvement. The places where cryolipolysis was most effective were the abdomen, back, and ankle. Patients completed a satisfaction questionnaire, 73% said they were satisfied, and 82% were willing to recommend cryolipolysis to a friend. Most described minimal to tolerable discomfort during the procedure. Eighty-nine percent of respondents reported a positive perception of treatment duration.

As of 23rd of April, 2021 we shall be performing cryolipolysis at your favorite beauty studio in Split. Call us to schedule your first treatment!
